A Popular Author's First Book

This is a book that my co-worker found on Tumblr and I immediately downloaded it from my library.

In this book, we have two girl friends who realize they care about each other as more than friends. However, in their country (Iran), they are not allowed to be together. Our leading lady, S, tries to figure out how she and N can be together after N gets engaged.

After debating about going through gender reconstruction surgery, S realizes that it's not worth it. The dynamic between the transgendered community and the homosexual community is discussed in great detail, and it's very eye opening.

My co-worker laughed at me because I would get so frustrated with S, and then would have to remind myself that the characters were 17.

This book was an intense read, but the journey of self discovery that S goes through was worth forcing myself to finish even when I would get so frustrated.
